The Hike
Sunset at Yonah will be about 7:00 pm. This is a strenuous hike.
Please note that if you do this hike you will not be home until around 9:30 pm
Yonah Mountain is located near Helen GA. There is approximately a 1400 ft elevation gain in around 2.5 miles from foot of the mountain. As we near the top, we will veer off the main trail and hike along the side of the exposed rock face. We will spend some time on a rocky outcrop with an excellent view near the top of the mountain and then move around to another rocky outcrop on the west side to view the sunset. It does involve some steep sections and rocky terrain, and should prove to be moderate difficulty. This is a D3-D4 level hike.
Please note: we will be hiking down in the dark. You should bring a flashlight.
On the way to the hike location, we will stop at a Pumpkin patch farm for an hour or so.
Please bring the following:
– Light jacket or sweater (for the evening)
– Sunglasses / Hat
– Snacks / Packed dinner
– Hiking Shoes / good Tennis Shoes
– Water (1.5 liters)
– small Flashlight
Recommended Items:
– Sports drink (like Gatorade or Powerade) – recommended, but not required
– Hiking poles
