Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a 2,923 acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. Opposing forces maneuvered and fought here from June 19, 1864 until July 2, 1864. Although most famous as a Civil War battlefield, Kennesaw Mountain has a much richer story.

This is a great beginners hike which is close to Atlanta. There is a fairly steep climb to the top of Kennesaw Mtn at the beginning of the hike and also a smaller climb up Little Kennesaw Mtn partway through the hike. Rest of the trail is mostly downhill or flat. There are great scenic views and interesting rock formations on this hike.

We will be hiking a 5.5 miles loop from the Visitor Center to Pigeon Hill. After the hike we will spend some time at the Visitor Center.

Things to bring:
– Backpack / Day Pack
– Lunch or snacks
– Water (1 to 1.5 liters)
– Hiking Shoes / Sneakers / Tennis Shoes

If we have time after the hike, we may stop in the City of Marietta and visit an Australian Bakery on the way home.
