Who can join AtlantaHikes.com hikes?

Anyone interested in exploring nature is welcome, regardless of age or hiking experience. Children under 18 must be accompanied by parent or guardian. Register on the members page, it’s free, and then sign up for a hike on the events calendar.

How often are hikes organized?

We hold hikes every other Saturday, typically covering 5 to 9 miles at a moderate pace. During the Fall season we often hike weekly due to great weather and to enjoy the beautiful Fall foliage.

Is there a fee to participate in hikes?

No, participation is free and there is no obligation to commit beyond individual hikes. The only costs are carpool fees for the driver of the vehicle which is normally between $5-$20 depending on the driving distance and any entrance fees. Other costs you may incur are for eating at fast food places, maybe for a quick breakfast or snacks.

What types of trails do you explore?

Our hikes include scenic trails and historic sites throughout Georgia and nearby areas. We prefer to hike on non paved trails but some trails do include paved areas. Proper footwear is recommended.

How long are the hikes?

Hikes are usually 5-9 miles long. These are normally all day events. Unless you are driving yourself, plan on not scheduling other activities as we sometimes don’t return till fairly late in the evening.

Do I need special gear?

Sturdy tennis shoes/hiking shoes and a daypack are usually necessary. Other gear that we recommend can be seen on our Resources page.

Are there any rules to follow?

Apart from listening to instructions from your hike leaders we don’t have many rules. However you should read our hiking etiquette page to help you navigate the trails.

Is there any danger involved?

Hiking is generally safe but no one can guarantee that accidents won’t happen. We try and ensure that everyone is safe. We recommend you stay in sight of the group leaders so you can call for assistance and to limit your chances of getting lost. All hikers will sign a liability waiver before we start any hike.
