 ke. We will hike the White Trail Loop and finish up on the Red Trail.\n\nT
 his is a short hike so we will be done by about 2:30 pm.\nRed (History) Tr
 ail\nThe Red Trail\, after half a mile\, takes you to the impressive five-
 story New Manchester mill ruins alongside the white-water rapids of Sweetw
 ater Creek and is the recommended hike for first-time visitors. New Manche
 ster was a mid-nineteenth century mill town which met its demise during th
 e Civil War. A history guide for the Red Trail is available in the Interpr
 etive Center. The second half mile of the Red Trail\, downstream of the mi
 ll\, continues to follow the rapids to the Sweetwater Falls area and is co
 nsiderably more strenuous because of the very rocky terrain. The Red Trai
 l is the most frequently used trail in the park because it’s the shortes
 t trail to the mill ruins and best showcases the beauty of the creek valle
 y.\nWhite Trail\nThe White Trail is a loop that passes through some of the
  most remote areas of the park. It intersects with the Red Trail at the ov
 erlook of the New Manchester mill ruins at the one mile mark. This trail w
 as specifically designed to highlight the park’s wildlife and plant comm
 unities. The trail winds through several lovely stream coves and follows t
 he ridges overlooking Sweetwater Creek. It connects to the end of the red 
 trail then follows the rapids down the creek. The trail then turns west an
 d follows Jack’s Branch upstream to Jack’s Lake. After climbing out of
  the lake valley\, the trail passes through the Jack’s Hill area\, a for
 mer farming community now known for its open meadows which are a favorite 
 of bird watchers.\n\nThings to bring:\n- daypack\n- hiking shoes\, tennis 
 shoes or river shoes.\n- lunch or snacks\n- water (1.0 - 1.5 liters)\n- $5
  for driver\n- Sunscreen\, sunglasses\, hat (optional)\n- camera\n- small 
 towel to dry off (if you want to step into the water)
