 Hike Leader: Rony Koshy\n\nThis State Park is close to Atlanta. It is onl
 y a 45 minute drive. This is a beginner’s hike. We will hike the White T
 rail Loop and finish up on the Red Trail.\n\nThis is a short hike so we wi
 ll be done by about 2:30 pm.\nRed (History) Trail\nThe Red Trail\, after h
 alf a mile\, takes you to the impressive five-story New Manchester mill ru
 ins alongside the white-water rapids of Sweetwater Creek and is the recomm
 ended hike for first-time visitors. New Manchester was a mid-nineteenth ce
 ntury mill town which met its demise during the Civil War. A history guide
  for the Red Trail is available in the Interpretive Center. The second hal
 f mile of the Red Trail\, downstream of the mill\, continues to follow the
  rapids to the Sweetwater Falls area and is considerably more strenuous be
 cause of the very rocky terrain. The Red Trail is the most frequently use
 d trail in the park because it’s the shortest trail to the mill ruins an
 d best showcases the beauty of the creek valley.\nWhite Trail\nThe White T
 rail is a loop that passes through some of the most remote areas of the pa
 rk. It intersects with the Red Trail at the overlook of the New Manchester
  mill ruins at the one mile mark. This trail was specifically designed to 
 highlight the park’s wildlife and plant communities. The trail winds thr
 ough several lovely stream coves and follows the ridges overlooking Sweetw
 ater Creek. It connects to the end of the red trail then follows the rapid
 s down the creek. The trail then turns west and follows Jack’s Branch up
 stream to Jack’s Lake. After climbing out of the lake valley\, the trail
  passes through the Jack’s Hill area\, a former farming community now kn
 own for its open meadows which are a favorite of bird watchers.\n\nThings 
 to bring:\n- daypack\n- hiking shoes\, tennis shoes or river shoes.\n- lun
 ch or snacks\n- water (1.0 - 1.5 liters)\n- $5 for driver\n- Sunscreen\, s
 unglasses\, hat (optional)\n- camera\n- towel to dry off (if you want to s
 tep in the river)
