 rgia’s largest state park is a hiker’s and backpacker’s haven. More 
 than 40 miles of trails\, including the popular 23-mile Pine Mountain Trai
 l\, wind through hardwood and pines\, over creeks and past small waterfall
 s. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 80 miles southwes
 t of Atlanta. Above King’s Gap is Dowdell’s Knob where President Frank
 lin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world affairs. A life-si
 ze sculpture of the President now welcomes visitors to the overlook.\n\nTh
 e Pine Mountain Trail  footpath that crosses and follows the beautiful Pi
 ne Mountain ridge\, offers clear crisp views of distant ridges in winter\,
  with occasional snowfall\, to the lush greens of summer ferns and foliage
  of lowland flora. Wildflowers are abundant and spring brings flowering do
 gwood\, native azalea\, mountain laurel and rhododendron. Fall brings brig
 ht and beautiful colors\, changing from day to day. With the connector tra
 ils that form seven loops there are over 40 miles of hiking trails for you
