 nesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park is a 2\,923 acre National Battlef
 ield that preserves a Civil War battleground of the Atlanta Campaign. Oppo
 sing forces maneuvered and fought here from June 19\, 1864 until July 2\, 
 1864. Although most famous as a Civil War battlefield\, Kennesaw Mountain 
 has a much richer story.\n\nThis is a great beginners hike which is close 
 to Atlanta. There is a fairly steep climb to the top of Kennesaw Mtn at th
 e beginning of the hike and also a smaller climb up Little Kennesaw Mtn pa
 rtway through the hike. Rest of the trail is mostly downhill or flat. Ther
 e are great scenic views and interesting rock formations on this hike.\n\n
 We will be hiking a 5.5 miles loop from the Visitor Center to Pigeon Hill.
  After the hike we will spend some time at the Visitor Center.\n\nThings t
 o bring:\n- Backpack / Day Pack\n- Lunch or snacks\n- Water (1 to 1.5 lite
 rs)\n- Hiking Shoes / Sneakers / Tennis Shoes\n\nIf we have time after the
  hike\, we may stop in the City of Marietta and visit an Australian Bakery
  on the way home.
