  is a 2\,923 acre National Battlefield that preserves a Civil War battlegr
 ound of the Atlanta Campaign. Opposing forces maneuvered and fought here f
 rom June 19\, 1864 until July 2\, 1864. Although most famous as a Civil Wa
 r battlefield\, Kennesaw Mountain has a much richer story.\n\nThis is a gr
 eat beginners hike which is close to Atlanta. There is a fairly steep clim
 b to the top of Kennesaw Mtn at the beginning of the hike and also a small
 er climb up Little Kennesaw Mtn partway through the hike. There are great 
 scenince views and interesting rock formations on this hike.\n\nWe will be
  hiking a 5.5 miles loop from the Visitor Center to Pigeon Hill. After the
  hike we will spend a little time touring the Visitor Center.\n\nIf we hav
 e time we may stop in Marietta and visit the Australian Bakery on the way 
 home :)\n\n&nbsp\;\n\nThings to bring:\n- Lunch or snacks\n- Water (2 lite
