 n the western edge of Lookout Mountain\, this is one of the most scenic pa
 rks in the state\, offering rugged geology and beautiful vistas. The park 
 straddles a deep gorge cut into the mountain by Sitton Gulch Creek\, and e
 levation differs from 800 to 1\,980 feet. The most spectacular view into t
 he canyon is found near the picnic area parking lot\; however\, additional
  views can be found along the rim trail. Hardy visitors who hike to the bo
 ttom of the gorge (including a 600-step staircase) find two waterfalls cas
 cading over layers of sandstone and shale into pools below. (For visitor s
 afety\, wading in pools and climbing on waterfalls is not allowed.) Outdoo
 r lovers should not miss this park's spectacular scenery.\n\nWe will be hi
 kng the Rim trail around the gorge. If we have time and some people have t
 he energy they can hike down into the gorge which has about 600 steps and 
 some waterfalls at the bottom.\n\nRequired Items to Bring:\n-daypack -hiki
 ng boots/shoes or strong tennis shoes. No flip flops or sandals.\n\n-layer
 ed clothing\n-lunch\n-high fuel trail snacks\n-plenty of water or sport dr
 ink 2 liters\n-camera (optional)\n\nWe are creating a fund for the hiking 
 group. This is to help compensate drivers if they should experience damage
  to their vehicles while driving or incur any fines for road violations or
  parking. We ask that every person hiking gives a $1 donation each time th
 ey hike\, which will be collected when you sign the waiver document when y
 ou arrive. This money is separate from what you pay the driver for gas cos
 ts.
