 049 acres\, Georgia’s largest state park is a hiker’s and backpacker
 ’s haven. More than 40 miles of trails\, including the popular 23-mile P
 ine Mountain Trail\, wind through hardwood and pines\, over creeks and pas
 t small waterfalls. Many visitors are surprised to find rolling mountains 
 80 miles southwest of Atlanta. Above King’s Gap is Dowdell’s Knob wher
 e President Franklin D. Roosevelt sometimes picnicked and pondered world a
 ffairs. A life-size sculpture of the president now welcomes visitors to th
 e overlook.\n\nThe Pine Mountain Trail  footpath that crosses and follows
  the beautiful Pine Mountain ridge\, offers clear crisp views of distant r
 idges in winter\, with occasional snowfall\, to the lush greens of summer 
 ferns and foliage of lowland flora. Wildflowers are abundant and spring br
 ings flowering dogwood\, native azalea\, mountain laurel and rhododendron.
  Fall brings bright and beautiful colors\, changing from day to day. With 
 the connector trails that form seven loops there are over 40 miles of hiki
 ng trails for your enjoyment.\n\nWe will be hiking the about 7 miles on th
 e trail and will shuttle cars so we don't have to hike back on the same p
