If you want to go join us on a day hike first.\n\nCumberland Island is Georgia's largest and southernmost barrier island. Pristine mari time forests\, undeveloped beaches and wide marshes whisper the stories of both man and nature. Come walk in the footsteps of early natives\, explor ers\, and wealthy industrialists. Preserved and protected for future gener ations\, Cumberland Island National Seashore includes designated wildernes s areas\, undeveloped beaches\, historic sites\, cultural ruins\, critical habitat and nesting areas\, as well as numerous plant and animal communit ies.\n\nAlso enjoy the deserted beaches\, the water should still be warm e nough to swim in\, and watch sunset over the marshes.\n\nClick here for a map of the island \n\nThings to do on the island\n\nFerry Information\n\n Tentative Itinerary\nSaturday -We plan on meeting at Intown at 8:00 am and drive to the coast (St. Marys\, GA) (Approx 5.5 hrs drive)\nSaturday Afte rnoon - Visit St. Marys town or Amelia Island\nSunday Evening - Dinner at restaurant and sleep at Motel (Buy lunch /snacks for Sunday for the beach) \nSunday (8:00 am) - Take the ferry to Cumberland Island\, spend time at beach and hike.\nSunday (5:00 pm) return to mainland by ferry. Have dinne r at a restaurant\nMonday Check out of motel. Possibly visit another beach \nArrive in Atlanta by 6:30 - 7:00 pm\n \;\n\nCosts: Approx $ 170 per person\n\n $20 ferry ride (non refundable fee)\n $50 per person gas costs\ n $ 50 - 60  per person for motel room for two nights (sharing room)\n $3 0 - 40 approximate food costs.\n\nPlease note that you must sign up by Aug ust 10\, and give Peter de Lastic a deposit of $20 per person for the fer ry. Deposits are non refundable.\n\nWe will probably schedule a quick mee ting at Intown on Aug 16 to talk about things you will need on the trip. \n\nPlease note that this event is subject to change or cancellation due t o weather (we will be in Hurricane Season)\n\nLooking forward to seeing yo u on a deserted beach.
