 el Ridge Trail explores the bank of the Chattahoochee River\, climbs low f
 oothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains\, and ventures into coves claimed by 
 Lake Lanier. In the first half mile of the trail there are several long-di
 stance views of Buford Dam and Lower Pool Park. Atlanta’s growth created
  demand for two fundamental commodities—water and electrical power. Star
 ting in 1950\, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers built Lake Lanier to fill 
 these needs. The Laurel Ridge Trail explores the southern end of the lake\
 , climbing through foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and exploring cov
 es that are now claimed by the lake.\n\nAfter hiking the trail\, we will h
 angout at the lake beach area. You can go for a swim if you like to.\n\nTh
